Michal Hrbek received the Otto Wichterle Award
The prestigious Otto Wichterle Award, combined with a financial bonus, is presented yearly to selected promising young researchers from the institutes of the Czech Academy of Sciences. President of the Czech Academy of Sciences, Professor Eva Zažímalová presented the 2020 Otto Wichterle Premium to 22 young promising researchers from the Academy’s institutes. One of them was Michal Hrbek from the Institute of Mathematics CAS. The ceremony took place in Villa Lanna on 23rd June 2020.

Dny otevřených dveří v Matematickém ústavu AV ČR | Open Houses in the Institute of Mathematics CAS
Tradiční Dny otevřených dveří v Matematickém ústavu AV ČR jsou součástí Týdne vědy a techniky Akademie věd ČR, nejrozsáhlejšího vědeckého festivalu v ČR pořádaného Akademií věd ČR ve spolupráci s dalšími institucemi ve dnech 2.–8. listopadu 2020. Při této příležitosti pracovníci Matematického ústavu připravili ve dnech 2.–5. listopadu 2020 celkem 11 videopřednášek. Jejich přehled je uveden níže v přiloženém aktuálním programu. Všichni zájemci jsou srdečně vítáni.
Traditional Open Houses in the Institute of Mathematics CAS is held as part of the Week of Science and Technology, the most extensive scientific festival in the Czech Republic, organized by the Czech Academy of Sciences in cooperation with other institutions from 2nd to 8th November 2020. Researchers from the Institute of Mathematics prepared 11 videolectures for days 2nd to 5th November 2020. Their summary is provided below in the attached Current program. Everyone is cordially welcome.

Giselle Antunes Monteiro, Antonín Slavík and Milan Tvrdý obtained the Best Book Award of the Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics, Charles University, for their monograph Kurzweil-Stieltjes Integral: Theory and Applications published in the Series in Real Analysis vol. 15, World Scientific, Singapore, 2019.

David Sweeney: Making Full and Immediate Open Access a Reality
David Sweeney, Executive Chair of Research England and exceptional personality will deliver on Monday, November 16, 2020, at 16:00 (Czech time) a video-talk entitled Making Full and Immediate Open Access a Reality.
David Sweeney is the world leader of the movement for immediate open access publishing of all research results financed by public sources. This movement can revolutionize publication and its funding. The role of big publishers can considerably change. The talk will introduce fundamental principles and ideas of open access publishing and will show us a vision of near-future reality.
The lecture is organized by the Institute of Mathematics, Czech Academy of Sciences and everyone is cordially welcome irrespectively of his/her research field.

Alice Valkárová: Czech Science Foundation – GA ČR
Dr Alice Valkárová, the President of the Czech Science Foundation, delivered a lecture entitled "Czech Science Foundation – GA ČR". The lecture was held in English for researchers of the Institute of Mathematics and for other interested participants. It was organized within the project Institute of Mathematics goes for HR Award - implementation of the professional HR management.
The event took place on Monday, June 29, 2020, from 2:00 pm in the large (blue) lecture hall on the ground floor of the rear building of the Institute of Mathematics CAS, Žitná 25, Prague 1. The talk was live-streamed via Zoom and its record is available on YouTube.

S odkazem na první tři číslice 3, 1, 4 čísla pí matematici již po řadu let neoficiálně slaví 14. březen jako tzv. Den pí. Z iniciativy Mezinárodní matematické unie Generální konference UNESCO dne 26. listopadu 2019 schválila prohlášení 14. března za Mezinárodní den matematiky. Při této příležitosti se bude po celém světě konat velké množství doprovodných akcí. Matematický ústav AV ČR ve spolupráci s Českou matematickou společností, Matematicko-fyzikální fakultou UK a Ústavem teorie informace a automatizace připravoval na pátek 13. března 2020 ve svém sídle v Praze 1, Žitná 25, workshop pro veřejnost.
S ohledem na rozhodnutí Vlády ČR v souvislosti s epidemiologickou situací šíření koronaviru se workshop v Matematickém ústavu ruší. Všem zájemcům se omlouváme.

Ocenění Akademie věd ČR pro Martina Jarníka
Akademie věd oceňuje nejen vynikající vědce, ale každoročně také uděluje děkovné listy dalším zaměstnancům, bez kterých by se špičková věda na pracovištích dělat nemohla. Jedním z nich je vedoucí střediska výpočetní techniky Matematického ústavu AV ČR Ing. Martin Jarník, kterému předsedkyně AV ČR prof. Eva Zažímalová předala 26. 2. 2020 děkovný list jako ocenění jeho dlouholeté obětavé a nenahraditelné služby ve prosěch ústavu i celé Akademie věd.
